Manchester Metrolink

Station codes

The first column gives codes applied to stations early in the system's development. It appears that the system has since fallen out of favour, hence the many gaps. The second column comes from an unknown source. Comparison with the national network CRS codes shows many similarities but not all apply there or apply to Metrolink stops (e.g. SHU that is Shudehill here but is Stonehouse on the national network). Finally, the third column contains codes derived from Transport for Greater Manchester’s 'Real-Time Open Data Portal'. The three lists bear little resemblance to each other, thus it appears that Metrolink 'started afresh' each time a new system was developed.

These codes come from an incomplete list of CCTV assets. They form part of a standard naming scheme, though some assets are Metrolink and some are TfGM responsibility. Only tramway and railway assets (or those that might be) are shown here; though the scheme extends beyond these to car parks, bus stations, etc. It will be seen that some codes coincide with those above. This is probably coincidental as the vast majority are very different.
